The heroes on “Flight 93” gave their lives to foil the plans of hijackers on September 11, 2001. Shortly after the crash, a makeshift memorial to the 40 victims was established. Now a permanent memorial draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The crash site is only 20 minutes from camp.

Fallingwater is a house designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935. This masterpiece was built partly over a waterfall and was turned into a museum in the 1960s. Tours are given daily.

On May 31, 1889, a neglected dam and a phenomenal storm led to a catastrophe in which 2,209 people died. It’s a story of great tragedy, and of triumphant recovery. You’ll see exhibits, artifacts, a multimedia presentation and an Academy Award-winning documentary.

In nearby Jennerstown lies the renown Mountain Playhouse professional playhouse and Green Gables fine dining restaurant. The Mountain Playhouse is Pennsylvania’s oldest professional stock theater and one of only twelve professional summer stock theaters remaining in the United States today.

Idlewild Historic Amusement Park
Founded in 1878 as a simple picnic ground along the Ligonier Valley Railroad, Idlewild & SoakZone is the oldest amusement park in Pennsylvania and third oldest in the United States. Named by “Amusement Today” as the second best kid’s park in the world, Idlewild features seven theme areas of fun, including the Soak Zone Waterpark and Story Book Forest. Amusement park staples like roller coasters and merry-go-rounds are also present at this park located just off of US Route 30 near Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
Gateway to the Laurel Mountains, Ohiopyle State Park prides itself on preserving the Youghiogheny River Gorge. The “Yough” attracts sportspeople from all over the East, including many whitewater boaters, hikers, and cyclists.

In late July of 2002, the world’s attention turned to the farm of Bill and Lori Arnold as nine coal miners were trapped beneath the ground in the Quecreek mine. The successful rescue effort captured the heart and imagination of our nation. A park has been created at the rescue site to serve as a tribute to coalminers and rescue workers. Admission is free. It is located just off of Rt. 985 between SB2W Lake Gloria and Somerset.

Developed and operated by SB2W, the Que Family Recreation Area is a public recreation park and full service campground located just a half mile down the shores of the Quemahoning Reservoir from SB2W at the Que. The park includes a boat launch, picnic tables, overnight tent, RV, and cabin campsites, soccer field, softball field, basketball court, swim beach, restrooms with water and flush toilets and a shower building. There are also several large and small pavilions for any size gathering.
